DIY: Statement Jewelry on a Budget

By Hannah Wegman

It seems like good, quality, affordable jewelry is almost impossible to find nowadays. As a college student myself, I doubt any of us want to pay $30+ for a piece of jewelry. Here are a few easy DIY jewelry pieces that will fit in your budget.

Braided Hex Nut Bracelet

There’s nothing more adaptable then nuts from the hardware store. These things are durable, inexpensive and, when made into a bracelet, look good with almost anything. This bracelet is so simple, yet elegant and it only requires two materials: cotton twine and brass hex nuts. Check out the full step by step process at HonestlyWTF.

Gold Tube Bracelet

This is another simple jewelry design. Although it’s small and dainty, this bracelet’s gold noodle bead makes it an intense statement piece. It also happens to be extremely comfortable since the band is made out of the same material as hairbands.  This is perfect for those of you who are new to jewelry making. Full version can also be found on HonestlyWTF.

Twig Rings/ Bracelets

Did you think it was possible to make jewelry out of twigs? Neither did I till I came across this DIY project at Simply Bold. To think that simple things like twigs can be turned into beautiful pieces like this just proves that there are so many other options that we haven’t even discovered yet. Jewelry like this is perfect for nights out on the town to match your bright clothes and even brighter personality.

Wrap Adventure Ring

A project like this ring is perfect because it’s interchangeable. They chose a peach stone looking bead, but you can literally pick any bead you like.  This means it would be impossible for someone to have the same ring as you. If you’re an artsy person, there’s a possibility that you might be able to manipulate the steps in order to have more than one bead on your ring. The possibilities are endless. Try it out at Oheverythinghandmade.

Braided Bead Necklace

When I first began to see these necklaces in stores, I fell in love with them. This is a statement piece that gives off a powerful vibe. I like this version I found at ECAB. I think that this would be awesome with a mixture of colors and maybe even different sized beads, giving it a messy, grunge look. If you want to try this project, I suggest you go to the nearest craft store and pick out three or four types of beads that distinctly catch your eye. Mash the beads together in different combinations and see what masterpiece you come up with!
