Coated in class

As fall slowly slips away and that winter chill sneaks its way into the air, heavy coats emerge from the back of closets. But who says warm winter coats have to be puffy and boring? Pea coats are a great, fun option that will keep you warm and your look trendy.

Pea coats have evolved from their vintage stiff sailor-style origins. Although they were originally produced for the US Navy, pea coats have taken a modernized, fashion-forward turn. Pea coats have transformed by shifting their color palette from strictly navy to more fashionable fall colors like violet and red. They have also become more contemporary by adding stylish elements like pleats, belts, and patterns.

Although bold dark colors are very fun and great for hiding winter slush and dirt, my favorite pea coat color is the traditional white. The white color has a very formal, classy sense that is perfect for an evening uptown. Shorter pea coats tend to carry a more casual sense, so a short pea coat, jeans, boots and a scarf would be warm yet cute dinner date attire.

My favorite pea coat look is a pea coat paired with a fitted dress and over-the-knee boots. This look is very sophisticated and is great for day or night. Pea coats also have a neckline that allows you to play up a fun scarf too. Add a blanket scarf to your outfit and you will be cozy and chic all night!
