We Be Snackin’

Research shows that snacking throughout the day not only helps to improve overall health but it leads, in many cases, to weight loss and better diets than those who don’t eat throughout the day. Now as a college students all I can think of is dude yesssss. I love food, and Miami University’s campus is huge. So when I hear that eating throughout the day is encouraged by nutritionists around the world, my “snacking” habits seem okay.

However what nutritionists want us to understand is the word “snacking” does not validate the over consumption of junk food. We as adults have a slower metabolism, so by eating healthy snacks throughout the day we are allowing our stomach muscles a challenge throughout the day, burning more calories (when the correct foods are consumed).

Below are some great snack options to have around your apartment/house/dorm but the list could go on forever. Always use the mentality, if it looks colorful and good on your plate it probably looks good in your stomach.

SNACKS

  • Frozen yogurt-covered fruit of any kind!

  • Popcorn
  • Cheese and Cucumber Sandwiches (cucumber water also boosts your metabolism)
  • Hard boiled eggs
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Granola
  • Veggies
  • Avocados!
  • Grapefruit
  • Sweet Potato Chips
  • Roasted Chickpeas
