The bomb

Bomber jackets, originally known as flight jackets, were first introduced in the early 1900’s. Pilots wore the jackets because they were lightweight, but still warm. Flash forward 100 years, and the bomber jacket is deemed one of the most wearable trends of spring 2014.

The collarless, banded, zip-front jacket is reminiscent of fashion trends of the 1950’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s. Now, the bomber has been fashionable updated thanks to designers such as Marc Jacobs, Erdem, Marni, and Tracy Reese. The bomber jacket of this day and age is a statement piece—silky fabrics, shiny embellishments, and loud prints make a bomber the focal point of any outfit. Pair with jeans and white tee, a shift dress, or even matching silk shorts (as seen on the Marc by Marc Jacobs runway).
